Crafting Unique Furniture and objects with Elegant Simplicity
Haystack Mountain Furniture & Design is named for a small hill (mountain is generous) in rural midcoast Maine. My dad has been a professional cabinet and furniture maker for more than five decades, much of that spent on the side of Haystack mountain. It was in this context that I grew up around the craft. Although woodworking is not currently my main profession, it is a lifelong passion. Since I was a kid I have constantly been ruminating on my next project or my next design. As a child this focus was more on building forts in the woods and now on building complicated yet functional and (hopefully) beautiful furniture. I am always looking for influences, thinking about and refining designs. My personal and professional life is also deeply rooted in the outdoors and so natural forms coupled with precise, clean lines characterize many of the things I find inspiring. Much of my life has been heavily influenced by the people and places I have called home, I think a lot about the value of a sense of place. In addition to how that influences my designs, it has inspired me to focus my material choices primarily on native hardwoods and the pursuit of sustainable use of natural resources.
